So far, despite a big deal disruptive pandemic or, maybe, in part, because of it, my life’s turning out to exceed what some thought to have been nothing more than grandiose dreams. I’ve learned a lot about myself and this new community that’s embraced me. I’ve met some amazing people. We are different. That is true. And, that’s okay. Some of us are, in fact, exceptional. That’s what’s been so amazing — to connect with truly exceptional people. While brilliantly accomplished, they’re also kind, thoughtful, welcoming, attentive, responsive and supportive.

They say in the 12-step programs that, “Expectations are planned resentments.” But, there’s no slogan for when life far exceeds expectations. I guess that’s an occasion for gratitude as well as the experiential wisdom to know that, “this, too, shall pass,” because, eventually, everything does — both the good and the bad.

What are the lessons in this just for today?

  • Show up.
  • Be yourself.
  • Be honest.
  • Be open-minded.
  • Be willing.
  • Be grateful.
